Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken along the coast of California which I took while on a road trip. I'm a self taught photographer.

Time

I took this image around some time in the early afternoon when the sun was high in the sky. The drive was so beautiful with so many different look out points, but when we stopped here I the way the clouds casted a shadow on the mountains was so beautiful that I had to take this shot.

Lighting

The lighting was out of my direct control, because it was all based on natural sunlight.

Equipment

I used my iPhone 7 and the lens that my phone had was at the time a 3.99mm f/1.8 when I took this shot.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo because of the way that the blue water breaking at the mountain looked. Also, I really loved the way the clouds were reflecting such a soft shadow on the mountain underneath them. The main reason this photograph spoke to me so much was because of how it captured the extensive depth that I was able to see in the moment, which I felt it feel like you were actually there when seeing the photograph.

Editing

I did not do any post-processing.

In my camera bag

At the time I had my phone, but I also normally have when taking photos my NICKON D5300 camera.

Feedback

Look to not have your shadow in the shot and find ways to play with natural light so that it highlights the depth of an image.
