Behind The Lens

Location

On a 2-week train trip across Canada, a stop in Montreal allowed us to hop on a bus tour. It took us past this magnificent building, Saint Joseph's Oratory.

Time

It was afternoon, about 4pm.

Lighting

The overcast skies gave the scene almost a painterly feel - no shadows!

Equipment

Shot with my Nikon Coolpix P900, zoomed to 320 mm, 35mm equivalent. Hand held.

Inspiration

The central flight of 99 wooden steps is reserved for pilgrims who wish to climb on their knees. Pretty inspiring!

Editing

The lower lamp pole on the left had a car parked in front of it, which I retouched out.

In my camera bag

These days I usually just carry an Oly OMD with a Samyang 7.5m fisheye and my Nikon P900

Feedback

Keep your camera in your hand, not in your bag. Bring plenty of SD cards and shoot whatever catches your eye, don't be too critical. My mentor used to say you can tell a professional by the size of his wastebasket.
