This herd of Spotted Deer (Axis axis ceylonensis) were photographed at Yala National Park (Southern - Uva Provinces), Sri Lanka. On a morning game drive, we suddenly came across a herd of deer consisting of six individuals, at this water hole. Since we were relatively far away, they were not disturbed by our presence and soon three more joined them and started to drink, except for this inquisitive animal, one of the original six, who suddenly looked up towards us. That was the cue for me to press the shutter. The image was taken hand held.
