Behind The Lens

Location

Asylum 2019 an annual Steam Punk festival in Lincoln here in UK. Reputed to be the largest such gathering of Steam Punk s in World. A great opportunity to take character shots of the more than willing participants.

Time

About 2pm on a very hot sunny day which made exposure diffilcult.

Lighting

See below about video light.

Equipment

Pentax K3ii with Sigma 17 to 70mm zoom. I like to get in close to chat to my model,. I also use a video light to give a constant fill in light. I prefer this to a flash gun.

Inspiration

Enjoy taking people in street at events.

Editing

Photoshop for cropping, the event is crowded and is diffilcult to isolate subject getting in close helps but does not always give full answer. Some shadows/highlights adjustments A layer of Nik HDR added at about 25% opacity then colour removed to create mono image.

In my camera bag

As above pkus 70 300 zoom. Spare batteries and cards only.

Feedback

Get in close make conversation show you are interested in what they ard doing. Appreciate the work they have put into their costumes and make up. This year I concentrated on people with extreme make up or older people with big beards. You can see more of these in my other images.
