I took this photo at the Hilton in downtown Chicago during Clickcon, a new photography conference focused on actual shooting!Time
This was in the afternoon during one of the Clickcon sessions.Lighting
Two large rectangular softboxes on each side.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D750 and Nikkor 28-300 Settings: Aperture f/4?ISO 800?Shutter 1/100?Focal Length 28mmInspiration
Actually, I was a volunteer at the conference and saw a class taking place, and jumped in. So, inspiration by opportunity!Editing
In order to capture this dress, two assistants were needed. Each had to throw a side of her dress. In doing so, it's easy to catch one or both of them slightly in the shot, or event a light stand. So editing them out and fixing the rug patterns on the floor after doing so was first. Then bring out the shadows and adjusting the colors was all that was really needed. In my camera bag
I primarily shoot with a Nikon D750. My go-to lenses are an 85mm F1.8 and a14-24mm F2.8. I also carry 2-3 Godox/Flashpoint ad200s with grids and gels, and 25" softboxes. In the studio, I use a beauty dish, 54" strip boxes, and sometimes a 65" parabolic umbrella.Feedback
The key ingredients here are staffing it. One model with the right kind of dress and two assistants to throw the dress. Have equal lighting on the left and right sides. It may take several attempts to get just the right shot. You can experiment with throwing one side and not the other and different and fun poses with the model to embrace the dress activity.
