Behind The Lens

Location

My name is Olive Goreglad. I was just out on one of my weekend drives during my favorite time of year, the fall. I live in Peterborough ON. Canada. I do this photography as a hobby. This photo was taken Just outside of the city where I live. It was a back country road and was taken about 6 years ago. I was on my fall colors drive to see the fall colors of course. I loved this country scene with the beautiful rainbow of colors shown by mother nature. We are so blessed and fortunate to have this to enjoy every year. It was taken in the early evening or late afternoon.

Time

I sometimes feel like a caged animal if I can't get out to take photo's. It must be my creativity coming out. I love the fall colors. This photo was taken just outside of Peterborough ON, Canada around the middle of October around 4-5 pm in the afternoon. I was out doing what I love to do with my dog Lizzy in tow and my camera in hand was started to walk along this road and the colors of the leaves even though they was saying good-bye for the next few months, were so brilliant I couldn't help but take this shot with the sun coming through the farmers field through the trees. I'm glad I wasn't blinded because the sun was so bright. Beautiful time of year.

Lighting

With regards to lighting, as long as it is filtered properly and the camera is at the right setting you can fire off a good photo of the sun without washing out the rest of the photo. Usually it is always good to have the sun behind you. I don't remember what I had my camera set at when I took this photo but the trees were a good filter for me to catch this photo.

Equipment

I used my cannon power-shot camera.

Inspiration

During the fall here in Ontario Canada, a lot of people like going for drives in the fall to capture photo's of the brilliant colors that mother nature provides for us; I am no different than the rest of my fellow photographers that love the fall for the smells in the air and the visual feast for the eye's the mother nature provides us as well as the sounds of the leaves being picked up by the breeze in the air on a sunny day. Love it. If that isn't enough inspiration for one, I don't know what is.

Editing

I did no processing of any kind while taking this photo. There was enough shade provided where I was.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Cannon power-shot. But in my camera bag I carry a small tripod a couple of optional lenses and my Sony digital SLR camera body. I am trying not to sound too technical as I am not that way usually. I am a novice still learning my craft. Thank you.

Feedback

Keep the sun behind you unless it is filtered or offside or make adjustments using lens filters or camera adjustments. To learn your camera and what it can do you have to think like an artist or photographic artist. You will make mistakes but that is how you will learn. I was once told an artist before they become good artists, have to make their 5,000 mistakes. I think it is similar to photography. Embrace the learning where ever and when ever you can and never give up!
