Location
I took this picture inside an old ranch house (Boyer YL Ranch) high in the Wyoming mountains (about 8,000' up).Time
Picture was taken after the afternoon talk and before our shoot so about 1:30pm.Lighting
Light that time of day was harsh, especially at that altitude (about 8000 feet up). Even though the only light for this picture same from a window, it still is harsh.Equipment
Sony A7Riii camera and 24-70mm lens. Nothing else.Inspiration
This picture was taken at a workshop Kim Weston (grandson if Edwards Weston) was running. We were mostly shooting models but I wanted to experiment with photographing an older man. After the afternoon talk I asked Kim if I could photograph him and he agreed.Editing
Since this was a picture of Ed Weston's grandson, it has to be in Black and White! Kim wouldn't stand for anything else!In my camera bag
I normally do use a bag. I have a soft neoprene camera strap that lets me carry extra SD cards and a spare battery. If I need something else I go back for it.Feedback
Talk to the model. Let them know what you are trying to do. Share with them the results and iterate unit both of you feel that the picture is as good as you can make it. As Kim, from whom I've taken many workshops, was the model, that was fun as he is also the one who taught me how to work with models.
