Location
This was shot on the outskirts of Cambridge England, by freshly ploughed fields. Maja my model, brought this dress along, just in case we needed it, as the shoot was predominantly about Maja modelling some latex outfits she also makes as Dark Virtue Designs. I had to shoot her in the dress as the sun was going down as I believed it would stand-out nicely against the colourful sky.Time
Sunset around 20:00hrs.Lighting
I only used my Roundflash (a collapsible softbox that fits around the flash and camera lens) for lighting on this series of shots.Equipment
At that time (it was a little while ago) I used a Canon 500d, canon flash and a Roundflash softbox.Inspiration
We were mainly shooting pieces from Dark Virtue Designs latex, but Maja brought the dress along just in case we needed it. I thought the dress would look great for a sunset series of shots, as the sky was becoming really colourful this evening. So as the sun was setting, Maja quickly changed into the dress, donned her long wig (her hair was short platinum blonde) it and a fired-off a series of shots.Editing
Yes, I boosted the contrast a little to lift the sky colours and blended out some earth and grass that was caught on the skirt of the dress. Maja has naturally lovely skin, so very little post processing was required on her, aside from boosting her eye colour a small amount. In my camera bag
Canon 70d, Canon 4300 flash, Canon 16-135 L series lens, Canon 500mm prime lens, Tamron wide angle lens. Screw-on filter holder with ND and ND Grad filters. Chewing gum (to help inhibit the coffee breath when working closely with my models). A foil emergency blanket - ideal fro keeping models warm between shots on colder evenings/days.Feedback
I found the Roundflash indispensable for this set of the shoot, its quick to and easy to use ands soooo effective. shooting low angle with a fairly high ISO helps keep the subject lit, with low flash settings. Higher flash setting and low ISO would have emphasised Maja but lost the darkening sky. A really good model who knows about lighting and understands what you are trying to achieve, working harmoniously with the photographer. Yeah Maja is great!
