Behind The Lens
Location
We have a nature trail behind where I work. During the summer there is 2 weeks where there are tons of Monarch butterflies.Time
This was taken during the noon hour where the sun was directly above.Lighting
With the sun being directly above, I was able to shoot this with minimal shadows. It also helped bring out the color of the butterfly.Equipment
Shoot with a Panasonic LUMIX G9. With this shot I had a 50mm prime lens. I have a small monopod so it’s easy to carry on my walks and helps steady the shot.Inspiration
I love nature but what caught my eye was the contrasting colors. With the sunlight, all the colors popped.Editing
Very little done in post. I used Lightroom to add a bit more contrast to bring out the butterfly. In my camera bag
Camera, Prime lens (usually 50m), small ring light, tons of batteries and SD cards. I try and travel as light as possible.Feedback
I must have taken 500 shots within the hour I was out. The more you take, the better your chance of having that one great shot!
