One of the things you really shouldn't miss when visiting Japan is Hirosaki. During a sakura flowering season, it is one of the most stunning places I have ever seen anywhere. Best time to visit is the end of April or beginning of May. Besides stunning Hirosaki park full of clouds of pink cherry trees, there are also many other interesting hidden gems in the region. Among those unfairly overlooked ones is Choshoji temple - one of the oldest Zen temples in Japan with beautiful and serene surroundings. Visiting it in a traditional silk kimono only added to the special atmosphere.
