One of my favorite times to take photos is in the evenings. I shot this photo in the darkness of night to catch the Blue Hour.Lighting
While photographing the light house I decided to bracket my shots using an over exposed, and under exposed and normal exposure. I then layered the bracket shots in Lightroom giving it an equal balance of lighting.Equipment
I own a Nikon D5 camera, the lens of choice was a Nikon 16-35mm 1.4G wide angel lens, a Manfrotto tripod and a remote shutter release.Inspiration
While out during the day I shot this lighthouse. I could only imagine what it would look like at night. After getting permission to return at dusk to the property, I allowed my imagination to go wild with different images of the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse. I truly enjoy taking sunset and night shots the most. However, landscape photography is not my strong point. Regardless, I keep trying to capture the perfect shot.Editing
Since I bracketed my shots for this photo and always shoot in RAW, I first start with Lightroom. I edited all three shots to my liking then transferred over to Photoshop where I finished the photo.In my camera bag
I always have my Nikon D5 camera, I travel with at least 3 lenses for options while out shooting. In my camera bag I do have different filters if I choose to use them. Always an extra battery. My remote shutter release and I normally will bring my Manfrotto tripod.Feedback
My best advice on capturing a shot like this is to be prepared. Have your equipment set up and ready in a timely matter. When capturing night shots always use a quality tripod so that it is solid and not shaky. And I always use a remote shutter release as well. Know what kind of shot you are looking for as it is difficult changing locations in the dark of night. And definitely remember a flash light, it comes in handy when trying to change your settings and getting back to your car. But most of all have fund and try new things!
