I really like this photograph. Me and my boyfriend had just arrived to Lisbon and we were cleaning our apartment and organizing everything before college started in September. This photo was taken around 10am I think. It was a beautiful day and the sun was really bright and strong!Lighting
I wanted the photograph to be just as transparent as my thoughts behind it. The lighting in this photo is natural, from daylight...and I believe it gave the viewer a stronger sense of reality. I took this photo in the morning (we woke up early) so it was like he needed to sleep again so his body could recover from all the tiredness, from all the anxious thoughts. And he was a the perfect place to wash away all of this.Equipment
This was taken with an Iphone 6s. I just couldn´t waste the opportunity to catch this moment. I wish I could afford better equipment so I could have even greater results.Inspiration
Me and my boyfriend had just arrived to Lisbon and we were cleaning our apartment and organizing everything before college started in September. And we needed to go to a self service laundry room to wash our clothes. So, long story short: we were so tired from all the cleaning, the pace of the city itself which had nothing to do with our hometown. Moving to Lisbon meant new responsabilities, new schedules! It meant that we had to learn how to deal with loneliness whether we wanted or not. We had to deal with new lifes! I think the expression on his face tells it all. This city is so tiring! To get somewhere we would need to catch the train, the subway or the bus and then walk like forever just to get to the place we needed to be. People are always in a hurry, walking fast, driving fast, talking fast! And we´re nothing like that. He was really tired from the urge that people had to be in a hurry, in every aspect of life. It´s like time was running out or slipping through his hands and he just wanted to stop. I was inspired from all of these aspects and the fact that I strongly believe that we shoud pay attention to our thoughts, our minds being cluttered with fear, panic, and low self-esteem, etc. We need to practice mental hygiene everyday just like we do have showers, baths, or change our clothes when we feel dirty. It is the same with our minds and I live by this.Editing
I actually didn´t do any post-processing here! I think the elements were already all in there! The daylight was naturally what I envisioned in my mind and it all merged effortlessly. Also the color of the clothes really stood out!In my camera bag
Lately I´m just using my Iphone 6s and I try to photograph interesting POV´s. I know it´s a very limited equipment but for now I cannot afford expensive cameras or tripods. The camera I had broke and since then I couldn´t buy a new one. I´m really passionate about photography and I try to use my creativity to it´s fullest! And from that point I just use whatever I have in hand. You have to see things from this perspective when you´re in college and can´t afford nice and expensive material to work with.Feedback
I think you just need to have a starting point or an idea, a concept that you want to materialize, whether it´s in the form of a drawing, a painting or a photograph. The concept of self service laundry rooms reminded me that we are responsible for ourselves, our choices, our thoughts,,,and we choose if we want to feed bad thoughts or nice thoughts. As we also choose if we want to keep our clothes dirty or give them a new opportunity to be washed again and start a fresh new day. Our mind is a beautiful thing and is testing us every moment of our lifes. It´s our job to reflect on our thoughts at the end of the day and choose to wash away the ones that dind´t served us any good. It is utterly necessary the practice of mental hygiene everyday. Wash your thoughts, give space for new ones.
