Behind The Lens

Location

I live in a rural part of my state. Its nothing but woods and farm land. I took this photo on a back road not far from my home in Jefferson, Pennsylvania in the United States.

Time

As I often do, I was taking a leisurely drive around the back roads near my home. Its time I use to clear my mind of the unlit up stress and negativity. I find the best time to do this is usually in the evening after a heavy rain storm. Once in awhile if I come upon a road along side a creek I'll park my car and walk the road instead of drive it. That just so happens to be the case with this photograph. I just happened to have went for an evening walk after a heavy downpour. I couldn't have come across it at a better time!

Lighting

Seeing as it was such a dark evening when I shot this photo, then having the fog making it that much darker, I decided to lighten up the fog just a tad in order to draw in the eye a little more. I wanted the photo to have that dark mysterious feel yet I wanted to be able to draw attention to it at the same time. Almost as if there's something within the mist calling to you...

Equipment

Funny thing about that! It just goes to show that you don't have to have professional grade equipment to have a professional quality photo. I took this photo when I was just starting out. The only thing I used to take this photo was my Sony DSC H-300. That's about as ameture of a camera as you can get. If that be the case, then my skills set is better than I give myself credit for!

Inspiration

As I stated earlier, I was just out for a walk and something about the scene caught my attention, it just "spoke"to me. I saw the vision of the photo before I ever pulled out my camera.

Editing

Honestly, I did very basic, minor post processing in this photo. I barely did anything at all to it.

In my camera bag

On a normal basis, I usually carry my Canon t7i body and five different lenses. My basic 50mm, macro, telescopic, etc. I also like to carry a backup battery, lens cleaning cloths, a few filters, off camera flash and generally my tripod. I tend to stick to the basics

Feedback

Have patience! You have to wait for the right timing. Early morning or evening, high humidity, generally after a heavy rainfall. Don't be afraid the go out into the storm. Because its after the storm subsides that's you'll get some of the best shots.
