I took the photo at home, on my kitchen counter. No studio, nothing special, just a beautiful flower that needed nothing to enhance it.Time
I am not even certain of the time of day. It was most likely late afternoon or early evening, as I don't see evidence of earlier light.Lighting
Whatever ambient light was coming through my kitchen window seemed to be perfect. No shadows interfered, and no overexposed areas appeared. I prefer natural light, as I shoot many 'nature' photos. Outdoors presents opportunities and difficulties, but I love to keep trying for perfection in my photos...… because nature is already perfection, just waiting to be captured in a lens!!Equipment
Again, nothing special here. I used my Droid 4 phone camera. I like the ease and the adjustments I can make quickly, as nature shot are usually spontaneous, not giving me a great deal of time to change lenses or make time consuming adjustments...… and the phone is ALWAYS with me.Inspiration
Inspiration was the flower itself. It was broken off the plant by accident and handed to me by a friend. I actually clipped it into my hair until I could get home, and when I looked more closely, I was enthralled with the total beauty of the little flower. I laid down a black cloth under the bowl of water in which I had floated it, and just snapped it from a few different angles. This was my favorite.Editing
I may have cropped an edge on this one, but I loved how the lily photographed and the colors were already there!!In my camera bag
I would love eventually have a "bag" with photo equipment in it. For now, I need to be content with my Droid4 phone and whatever I can capture on the run. Maybe life will slow soon, and I can collect some equipment and plan even better photography..... I look forward to that!Feedback
I think keeping it simple on a capture like this is probably best. The black background prevented any odd light reflections, and using the available light prevented any flashbacks. Using the components of the subject to create the photo seems somehow 'real', as opposed to 'posed'. I have seen some gorgeous studio shots, but I love the photos that just capture the inherent beauty of the subject, whatever that may be.
