It was a foggy morning, feeding the horses on a farm in Reddick, Florida..... a rural area outside of Ocala. That is 'horse country', and I was fortunate enough to work as a foal handler for a great breeder. It gave me multitudes of opportunity to capture some exquisite horses, just being horses..... and share a few of them with whoever cared to take a look at my Viewbug profile.Time
I arrived at the farm at 7 each morning, and feeding the horses is the first chore of the day. There was a really heavy fog that morning, and we took our time, moving around the farm. The horses were all very quiet, even though it was feeding time, and this was the last paddock on the route. The mare here, was just quietly grazing, not seeming to care that we were coming with breakfast. It was quite peaceful.... even calming.Lighting
The shafts of light, filtering through the trees, in the fog, were almost magical. The sun was trying to be brilliant, while the fog was persistently dispersing his rays. With such elegant natural lighting, it did not take long for me to realize that some great photos were right here, for the taking.Equipment
I was using my cell phone.... a Droid 4..... I always carried it with me, and was the only thing available to capture the glory of what I was witnessing.Inspiration
All I needed for inspiration was the scene in the photo. I came, I saw, I photographed. The lighting, the fog, the horse, the whole peacefulness of the atmosphere..... who wouldn't be inspired to photograph such a beautifully natural scene?!?Editing
I probably cropped out a distracting fence post, or maybe moved the center, to put the sun more in the upper corner, but I didn't filter or try to enhance anything..... everything was too naturally perfect to change it.In my camera bag
I've upgraded my phone to a Moto Z2 Play Droid.... I obviously like the Motorola Droid phones. This one has a 12mp camera, with a 10X zoom on it.... I'm pleased with the photos it takes on the go. I also picked up an underwater Cannon.... nice little camera for kayaking and beach trips, so I'm not worried about the phone going in the drink!! When I have more time to devote to my photography, I will invest in a good quality camera with a great zoom, so I can capture nature in all her glory, without disturbing her.Feedback
It was a lucky shot, at a lucky time of day, with no planning on my part, except to focus on the beauty of the scene and hope to get a great shot. My advice is to open your eyes, open your heart, and have your camera handy.......... if it strikes you to lift your camera and take aim, it is worthy. If the shot turns out great, you did something right, and if it doesn't turn out great, try again another time. Some folks make a 'science' of photography, and if that's your bliss, please keep doing it. Me? I am just passionate about the world we live in, and sometimes I'm lucky enough to capture it in a photograph.... and so very pleased when someone else likes what I've seen through my lens!!!
