Behind The Lens

Location

I can almost hear her saying "Whatcha doin', Gramma?" I was packing to leave after a visit with my son and his new bride.... and the new 'granddog'. Dani had surreptitiously slept in my bed each night, and while I readied for packing, she laid on my suitcase, watching. I couldn't resist a quick snap of her curiosity and interest in my activities.

Time

It was an early California morning, sun shining over the foothills and avocado trees dotting them.

Lighting

The sun was streaming in through the opposite window, spotlighting Dani, as she watched my every move. There is nothing of my doing in this photo except the touch of the camera button. The strong sunlight caused shadows across her face, but nothing could diminish the interest in the look on her face.

Equipment

My wonderful, handy Droid 4 Motorola phone was always within reach. No lens, no tripod, no flash or fill...... just a great little camera phone. Still searching for the 'real' camera I would like to have within that same reach.

Inspiration

Dani chose the time and the spot.... I simply took advantage of the photo opportunity!! The puppy-like, expectant, curious face was all the inspiration I needed.

Editing

I cropped the photo, as is necessary on most of my snaps. I didn't change anything else until after I posted this one to ViewBug..... I played with the lighting and photo-shopped the cable plate off the wall...... but I never re-posted because everything that was 'original' is what prompted me to take the photo in the beginning.

In my camera bag

As I said, I always have my phone with me, though I have upgraded the Droid since this photo was taken. Phone cameras have improved and the 'instantaneous' focus/shoot ability has turned my playing with photography on its ear. I can change a few settings and get some really interesting shots......... and I still hope to find the perfect 'real' camera some day and do more shooting to improve on the pleasure I get from those 'once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that jump at me now and then.

Feedback

Keep your mind and your eyes open. Digital photography allows such freedom to shoot...... and delete, if you don't like the shot. It could be 'nothing' you're seeing with your eyes, but the camera may catch something totally fantastic! Keep looking, shooting, and enjoying the world of photography. If something catches your eye, shoot it...... you can always delete it later, if the camera didn't capture what you'd hoped..... but most times, you can't go back and try to find something that will never repeat itself. Happy captures, everyone!!!
