This is a luminance (B&W) shot of the major galaxies of the M81 Group, in the constellation of Ursa Major (the Great Bear). The two main galaxies, M81 (Bode's Galxy) and M82 (the Cigar Galaxy) lay at a distance of 11.9 million light years. The galaxy to M81's lower right is NGC3077, which lies a little further away, at 12.8 million light years. The one to their upper right is NGC2976, which lies 11.6 million light years distant. And, if you look closely to the right of the line of stars which looks like a "7", you'll see a small grey dot. That is NGC2959, which is a background galaxy around 205 million light years distant. Next to it is a thin sliver of light, NGC2961, which is also a background galaxy, at 210 million light years.
Pic was taken on t20 (a Takahashi FSQ-106ED refractor) with a SBIG STL-11000M mono camera, at New Mexico Skies Observatory (iTelescope Network). 10x180sec subs (30 minutes).
