Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot right out of my dining room window on a beautiful fall day here in Tennessee. That's why the ornamental grass is in it's full glory of being all fanned out and bushy at the top.

Time

This was a perfectly sunny day and I waited until the sun was shining directly over the area I was shooting at, which was about noon at that time.

Lighting

As I said before I waited until the sun was shining directly over my area which in turn made the lighting absolutely perfect!!!! Especially when hen shooting at such high speeds as I was!!!! Gorgeous cloud free day!!!!! Afterall natural light is the best!!!!

Equipment

I was using a Nikon D5300 camera with a simple 55-200 lens. No tripod, all freehand. And obviously no flash needed.

Inspiration

Well we are well blessed with Blue Jays so I wanted to get some shots of them fighting around a birfeeder I had nearby. So I stocked the feeder with their favorite food plain peanuts!!!!! You wouldn't believe the fights and chasing shots I got of not just Blue Jay's but of a lot of species, but by far the Jay's stoked the show. And I really loved shooting action shots, to get that frozen point in time that you'd otherwise not even see unless you were taking pictures of the subject. It's like opening a Christmas present as you're going through your pictures and find lucky shots like this one and many others, it's so exciting!!!

Editing

Not a thing!!!! I understand all these folks wanting to learn how to photoshop and such the like. But I taught myself how to take pictures and I know you cant do it all the time but I'd rather be able to set my camera to the conditions and know how to set my camera based on that, instead of editing all my pictures!!!

Feedback

First really know about your subject as you possibly can. Make sure you have plenty of light for such high speeds!!! Patience, patience, and patience!!!! I want to say THANK YOU to Veiwbug for letting photographers share their work with bo prejudice!!!!!!
