It had been a wet and grey start to the day, with lots of heavy downpours. The breaks in the clouds were illuminating the landscape wonderfully in between.Equipment
Canon 5Dmkii, Tamron 24-70mm USM, Lee graduated filter and ND filter, Giotto tripod.Inspiration
The sky was dramatic and moody, with occasional breaks of sunlight. Perfect conditions for shooting something illuminated against the dark clouds. There is a windfarm further along the road which I had headed to, but noticed this turbine standing alone in a field nearby. I always feel they have a slightly sinister presence, being so tall amongst the flat landscape of East Anglia, and the lighting was perfect for conveying this. I had to experiment with shutter speeds to get the blades to blur as I wanted, finally settling on 1.6th second. Then it was just a case of waiting under a large umbrella for the light to weave its magic.Editing
Just the usual tonal adjustments required when shooting raw files. In my camera bag

This shot wouldn't have worked without the right lighting conditions, On a stormy day such as this, try to find a subject that will look good lit up against a dark sky, such as a lighthouse, windmill, or tree, get the sun behind you, and then watch the sky, waiting for that gap in the clouds when the sun might break through. Be prepared for your shot though, this kind of light often only lasts for a few moments, and you may only et one chance.
