Location
Herringfleet Smock Mill, on the Suffolk Broads, UK.Time
Moments after sunrise, about 7amLighting
This shot was taken at the moment the sun first broke over the horizon, causing long shadows and intense golden light.Equipment
Canon 5Dmkii, Canon 17-40L, Lee graduated filters, Giotto tripodInspiration
I had trekked to this mill in the darkness before dawn, hoping for a good sunrise. I chose a composition and waited to see if the sun would arrive or the bank of cloud would make it a fruitless trip. I wasn't to be disappointed, literally as the first rays of light illuminated the scene, the two swans swam up from the mill, lit up perfectly against the inky water.Editing
Just the usual tonal adjustments required when processing a raw file. A slight boost to the saturation and clarity, but nature did most of the processing! In my camera bag
Canon 5Dmkii, Canon 5Dmkii Infrared conversion, Lee Filter system, Giotto tripod, Canon f/2.8L 100mm, Zeiss Distagon 18mm T* ZE, Tamron 24-70Feedback
Try to predict what the light may do to transform a landscape. This light lasted for literally two minutes, and then the sun was hidden by the clouds leaving a pretty, but flat landscape behind. Make sure you are prepared for when those moments arrive
