Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken was taken inside Mount Rainier National Park
Time
To capture this photograph I had to wake up at 2:30am then drive into the national park before sunrise. Starting on the hike in the dark with the smell of smoke in the air, I made it up to the ridge I was targeting just in time for sunrise around 6:30am and the glorious mountain began to catch the light.
Lighting
Nature did all the lighting work for me here as wildfire smoke started to engulf the skies just as the sun began to rise and hit the glaciers of Mount Rainier which allowed for a surreal warm and dreamy look.
Equipment
This was shot on a a tripod with a Nikon d5200 using a Tokina 11-16mm lens
Inspiration
Mount Rainier National Park is my favorite location in all of the great Pacific Northwest, and I have always wanted a great sunrise photograph with light hitting the mountain in the early morning to try to put into perspective of how magical the place feels.
Editing
Post processing required here was lightning up the shadows in the foreground and color correction in the smokey sky as hazy skies and camera sensors often have a hard time working together to portray the true colors.
In my camera bag
In my bag I have my main camera body the Nikon D5200 along with two lenses one a standard kit lens nikkor 18-140mm and another Tokina 11-16mm wide angle lens. I addition I also have two Tiffen circular polarizer filters one for each lens along with many memory cards, a cable trigger release, microfiber cloths and a lens pen
Feedback
plan ahead of time and get up early in the morning even if conditions dont look totally ideal and have patience, landscape photography can be unpredictable in all sorts of conditions.
