Location
The photo was taken in Bennington Vermont, view from the top of the Bennington Battle Monument. Is hard to miss the location it stands out. The Steeple also stands out from among the trees, and as you can see, the Fall colors are grandiose. I took this photo the way it inspires, a steeple in a palette of colors. A photographer that had previously been to Bennington, took a similar shot three years earlier. I promised myself I would do the same.Time
This is one of my favorite images. There was a light rain in the morning creating mist in the mountains and it remained overcast with a passing drizzle here and there. I don't remember the exact time, but it was just before 11:00am. The air was nippy, but the colors were vibrant. It was October 23, 2018.Lighting
When I took this shot, the mist was breaking up. I actually wanted more mist for the spooky photo in Black and White. It appeared I had missed my chance. Then the colors began to emerge and I decided to wait. I selfishly stayed up there for about 45 minutes, but it was worth the wait. A sunny day would have been spectacular.Equipment
This was shot with my Lumix DMC-GX1, with my telephoto lens, MEGA O.I.S 45-200mm, on a Tundra Nat. Geo Tripod.Inspiration
The emerging palette of colors from the height of the Monument. I still consider myself an amateur in photography, so anything unusual will grab my attention.Editing
I usually do light enhancements to re-establish the colors as I remember when I shot this. I do wish I shot this image in raw, but with the overcast, natural light was just fine. I'm still learning post-processing.In my camera bag
I pack my trusty Lumix DMC-GX1, with 3 lenses: Lumix Vario 14-42mm, Lumix HD 45-175 and the MEGA O.I.S. 45-200mm. A second DMC-GX1 camera that my friend Rich gifted to me when he bought a Nikon. an extra battery pack and a power pack for recharging in the field if there's no power source. My camera bag is small to fit in a backpack which I always carry when I'm on the field. A pair of golf gloves and a pair of gloves with tactile fingertips for the cold environment.Feedback
Plan ahead for the environment you'll encounter, be prepared. Have lots of patience to look for the shot you want. Be open minded, take advantage of any of the weather conditions that are present as if they're ideal.
