Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at a garden near me, that I frequent during the summer. I love to go there to take pictures of their beautiful plants, and birds.

Time

This photo was taken in late afternoon, which is typically a great time to go shoot some photos. However, when I arrived it had become very cloudy, so it made it look later in the day than it actually was.

Lighting

The lighting in the photo was pretty dim, and it made for a very dark look. I had intended to capture a photo of this mini garden in the sun, however I have come to appreciate the cloudiness.

Equipment

For this shot, I used nothing other than my Canon T7, my trusty camera that I got for my last birthday.

Inspiration

When I got to the gardens, I immediately went to this spot, because it has a collection of some of the prettiest flowers. I came to find that this setup was their seasonal display, and I wanted to take advantage of the cloudiness and darker lighting to give the photo a greater sense of tension, and eeriness.

Editing

As I do with nearly all my photos, I adjusted the exposure by just a little bit, and gave it some more defined shadows, to add to the eerie vibe. Lastly I upped the saturation just a little bit, and then I was content.

In my camera bag

My camera bag consists of- of course- my camera, my lensball, tripod, a spray bottle filled with water, and just a few little random items, like a small toy car for mini scenes.

Feedback

For anyone trying to capture a similar photo, I highly recommend seeking this same kind of darker, cloudy lighting. I also think it helps to have flowers and greenery to balance out the vibe, as well as some sort of structure to be the focal point.
