Location
I captured this image on an old logging road at my cabin on Texas Hallow Road in NY. I frequently walk these roads on my property in search of beauty in natures simple things.Time
I shot this early morning. It had rained through the night into the early hours of the morning.Lighting
Early morning soft sunlight gave this image a warm glow that reflected in the water. Because the sun was low in the sky the light crossed both the water and leaf giving the overall image more depth and detail.Equipment
I photographed this with a Nikon D700 using a Nikkor 105mm lens. Camera was handheld.Inspiration
During one of my frequent hikes on my property at my cabin I had to jump over this large puddle. As I turned back to get a view of the puddle I saw the calm water with the leaf cuddled nicely into the waters surface. The stem of the leaf being turned up and the surface of the water gently holding the leaf gave the image more depth. The reflection of the trees suggested where the leaf came from and that its job on the tree was finished.Editing
I use several editing tools in post-processing. I import my RAW files to Lightroom and make a few adjustments. After that I am in Topaz Studio where I spend the most time post-processing. I end up with some finishing touches in Photoshop. For this particular image I also used a JD (Jessica Drossin) action in Photoshop to warm the top of the image. This helped to enhance the reflection of the early morning sunrise and gave warmth to the overall image. In my camera bag
I use a Nikon D850 with a variety of lenses new, old and other brands with adapters to fit Nikon and Sony E-mount. I recently had my Nikon D700 converted to infrared. I enjoy using vintage c mount lenses designed for 16mm cine camera on my Sony A7R. The lenses I use with my Sony are Kinoptik 9mm, 32mm, 40mm and 75mm. I also use Wollensak, Schneider and Angenuiex lenses.Feedback
I have learned it is so easy to walk past the beauty that is right before our eyes. Life's distractions has conditioned us not to be aware of our surroundings. When out and about with your camera intentionally look for objects that may appear to be less meaningful to most people and find beauty in these things. Be aware of the lighting conditions before heading out with your camera, we can set ourselves up for disappointment if the light is not right or if we are not prepared to be able to modify the light.
