I photographed my grandson Rory along a quiet street in front of an old barn.Time
I captured this image on a summer afternoon walk with my family.Lighting
Diffused sunlight. There was a tall tree line that diffused most of the sun light.Equipment
I used my Sony A7R with a Kinoptik 40mm c mount cine lens.Inspiration
Our family enjoys taking walks around our small town on Sunday summer afternoons. My grandson Rory grabbed his camera to capture some images with me on while on our walk. I give each of my grandchildren at the age of four an older DSLR cameras to learn photography. I photographed a couple images of him during the walk, but came upon this barn and liked the rough textures. I had been teaching Rory an old trick using his fingers and closing one eye to see wide angle or normal lens depending on the amount of fingers held between his eyes. I decided to capture him doing this. Rory had been playing in the dirt before the walk which adds more character to this image.Editing
I use several editing tools. I always import my RAW files to Lightroom and make a few adjustments. After that I am in Topaz Studio where I spend the most time post-processing. I end up with some finishing touches in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I use a Nikon D850 with a variety of lenses new, old and other brands with adapters to fit Nikon and Sony E-mount. I recently had my Nikon D700 converted to infrared. I enjoy using vintage c mount lenses designed for 16mm cine camera on my Sony A7R. My choice of these lenses are Kinoptik 9mm, 32mm, 40mm and 75mm. I also use Wollensak, Schneider and Angenuiex lenses.Feedback
Family members are usually always a fun subject to photograph. Sometimes we need to slow down, push aside the distractions and take time to enjoy our passion for photography with those who are closest to us.
