This baby lion is about 4 weeks old. Our guide had been keeping an eye on the 2 lionesses, probably sister, who denned together for one of them to give birth to 3 cubs. Cubs are born blind, opening their eyes at around seven days. They begin walking at about 3 weeks, so this baby hasn’t been walking long. The look in its eyes is just plain precious…this tiny little baby obviously totally depending on its 400 pound mother. In this picture, mom is about to coax the babies to the other side of the den, knowing there are humans not far away watching them. The sad thing about many safaris is that there are so many vehicles hanging around that the animals are quick to give us the butt view and further protect the young from potential danger and human eyes.
