We were officially still on Tanzanian soil, but not far from here, before the mountains, is the Kenyan border. This is the mighty Serengeti region which bridges both countries, primarily in northern Tanzania, and is a protected area. The Kenyan part of the Serengeti is known as Maasai Mara.
I like this photograph because it so embodies an African savannah landscape, with its acacia trees, animal tracks, mesas, endless view.
The Serengeti hosts the largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world, which helps secure it as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, and as one of the ten natural travel wonders of the world. The region contains the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and several game reserves. SO many animals…lions, leopards, wildebeests, zebra, giraffe, birds, rhinos, hippos, etc etc etc. It boggles the mind.
