This was shot on the kitchen floor in my house since that is where he decided to rest his head. My cat is not one to pose for a camera, so you have to take the shot when you get the chance.Time
My chance to take this image was just after noon.Lighting
I used the natural light coming through the kitchen window since it was lighting his face well.Equipment
The camera was a Canon EOS 6D with a 28-90mm zoom. No tripod, unless the kitchen floor counts. No flash needed as I used the natural light coming through the kitchen window.Inspiration
With a face like that, how could you not take a picture?Editing
I grew up shooting on film and I was raised on the idea to get it correct in camera, so I try to get exposure and framing right in camera. I did use Photoshop to clean up dust on the floor and adjust brightness and contrast. In my camera bag
I really don't keep a camera bag ready since my photography interests change from day to day. For example if I shoot something macro then I have the extension bellows setup on a Sony A3000. For more general things it might be the Canon XSi or the 6D.Feedback
The most important thing to remember is patience. For pet photography you want to get down on their level, eye to eye if you can. If you can't get close to your pet without scaring them off, use a zoom or telephoto lens to fill the frame.
