Behind The Lens

Location

I came across this heron while walking in with my dog in Walksburn Northumberland.

Time

This was early afternoon.

Lighting

As you can see from the water it was a still day. A little overcast but lovely walking weather.

Equipment

as usual I was using my canon 5D mk 2, handheld.

Inspiration

I was lucky to get this shot as usually my dog frightens off any wildlife before I can get anywhere close. I had tried to get this bird further up stream but Charlie had joined me and caused a scare. Not so much that the Heron went too far though. Noticing where he flew to I quietly approached and made sure the dog was distracted.

Editing

I have run the picture through lightroom to improve colour and resized in photoshop.

In my camera bag

I usually just have my camera and a spare battery. Occasionally I have my tripod if I'm planning on filming.

Feedback

The only advice I can give is go walking with your camera. The walk makes you feel good and you never know what you might find, if the dog doesn't get there first.
