Behind The Lens

Location

This was a dog I met at the waterfall up Hareshaw Lynn. It a lovely ravine walk in Northumberland crossing several bridges and culminating in this small but beautiful falls.

Time

Around lunchtime I came across this perfect image. I gave the owners my contact so I could send them a copy but they never got in touch. Oh well.

Lighting

Light was fluctuating as clouds rolled across the sky but the sun and the spaniel came together in this pose to show the water dog at his best.

Equipment

This shot was taken on my Canon 5D, handheld.

Inspiration

The dog in front of the falls and the contrasting colour of the rock tinged with green presented me with an iconic capture of this breed.

Editing

Very little post processing was needed as the light was perfect on the day.

In my camera bag

Occasionally I will carry the whole kit including tripod. On this day I had everything as I also wanted to get some little video of the falls but I hadn't set up when the spaniel appeared so I just had to shoot away.

Feedback

I'm not too good on advice as I have very little training or technical knowledge but sometimes you just know when a shot is good. Either something in it surprises you or you actually managed to capture what you were trying for. I think there is an element of luck born of simply keeping on trying and enjoying the process.
