Location
The photo was taken in July 2018 in Farne Islands (England). My goal was to take pictures of puffins with fish in their beak and I wanted both eyes to be in focus; it wasn't easy at all because puffins were extremely fast in order to avois being attacked by seagulls.Time
I spent all day taking pictures of puffins, guillemots, razorbills and terns, but this photo was taken in the morning.Lighting
The sun was pretty high in the sky but there were a few clouds that helped me to get a soft and widespread light.Equipment
This photo was shot on a Canon 1DXII, with a Canon 500 f/4 IS II.Inspiration
I got inspired by the great number of photos that very good photographers around the world take of puffins.Editing
In this case processing was essential; I just cropped a little bit and opened the shades to make the eyes look better. In my camera bag
On my photographic tours I always use two cameras, Canon 1DXII and Canon 7DII, with a super-telephoto prime lense and a zoom.Feedback
First af all, find a place where a lot of puffins fly; then set the camera with fast shutter speeds and a fairly close aperture (I reccomend f/8). Usually I focus the eyes but in this case I focused the beak in such a way that the depth of field went up to the eyes and the fish. Finally, you have to be really patient and wait for the right time!
