Champoeg State Heritage Area, in Marion County, Oregon, is the location where, on May 2, 1843, it was decided to align the Oregon Country with either England or the United States. The vote was 52 to 50 to align with the United States. It is a beautiful area along the Willamette River, just South of Portland, Oregon, where, until the flood of December 2, 1861, the Town of Champoeg was located.
