Just after sunsetLighting
The lighting was fantastic. The ambient light was illuminating the wet rocks giving it a soft ethereal glow. But the contrast was such that this photo worked equally well as a black and white.Equipment
Shot on a Nikon D750 with a 24-120 f/4 lens mounted on a Vanguard Veo 2 235CB tripod. A 6 stop ND filter was used for this shot.Inspiration
I had seen a few photos of this spot on the internet. I really wanted to get down here and check it out myself. I saw that the tide was incoming but not very high during sunset. We were standing just a few feet away from the well. Water gushes in through this and squirts out into the air and while it recedes, just for a fraction of a second, forms this beautiful waterfall-like effect and this is exactly what I wanted to capture. I had to be very precise with my shutter speed so as to retain the some of the texture of the water to show its violent force, and also to smoothen out parts of it so as to show the smooth waterfall effect.Editing
I used Photoshop and Lightroom to add local contrast. Brought up the whites and added a soft glow using Orton effect. In my camera bag

Get there early and take your position. Keep an eye on the tide. Be brave but not stupid. Bring plenty of Kim wipes. 6 Stop ND filter. A tripod of course.
