Behind The Lens

Location

Amsterdam

Time

It was very early in the morning and I was walking along the nearly deserted canals of Amsterdam, when I saw this scene and fell in love with it. I only had my phone, so had to play a bit with the exposure setting to truly capture the beauty of what I was seeing; in the end, I managed to get the perfect shot.

Lighting

Because it was so early in the morning, I really had to play with the exposure control to get it "just right" and capture what I was seeing with the naked eye

Equipment

My phone

Inspiration

The beauty of it all; there was something magical about the bicycle (they are everywhere in Amsterdam) against the backdrop of the boat, the water, and the lights.

Editing

None at all

In my camera bag

80% or more of my photos are taken with my camera (currently a Samsung Note 10+; I believe this photo was taken with my previous phone, a Samsung Note 8+). Because of that, there is no additional equipment I typically carry

Feedback

Play, play, play! It is all about your eye for interesting composition, and your ability to use your equipment to get the right lighting, colours, etc. As they say, practice makes perfect, so practice as often as you can! Even places you see all the time (near home, near work) can have wonderful surprises if you take a different perspective: try going down low, or playing with elements in the foreground and the background.
