Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken inside a shed of the old Bugatti factory (now closed).

Time

After a journey of about 150 km I managed to enter the Bugatti factory after calling my friend Federica Cavazzoni. The glazed sheds lit by the midday sun were perfect for certain types of photos. The photo was taken at about half past twelve of 2018/05/06

Lighting

The lighting is the result of the defects in the shed where I took the picture. It is a counter light. Light enters from a totally glass wall.

Equipment

To make this shot I used my Nikon D850 equipped with Nikkor 70-200 F2.8. The focal length used is 95mm. diaphragm 6.3; iso 400; 1/80; overexposure +0.7. I wanted to overexpose the photo in order to compensate for the shadows (it is a counter light) already being shot. Free hand click.

Inspiration

I love playing with light and I love taking pictures in against light. The light-skinned body of Federica inspired the realization of the photo. The position taken by the model was decisive in the success of the photo.

Editing

At the post production level I have further lightened the shadows on the body and decreased the contrasts that were still very high. With photoshop I then proceeded to better define the contours of the image.

In my camera bag

Normally in my backpack are my Nikon D5 and D850 and the Nikkor triad composed of 14-24; 24-70 and 70-200 (all 2.8) and 85mm F1.4.

Feedback

I love to photograph what goes along with the photographic rules. A strong backlight would have discouraged many photographers but "daring" and trying to do it, you get nice shots. Exit the rules and do not look at the data provided by your meter. Check the histogram and try!
