Early spring time is a hard time for all grazers. Winter reserves are gone and the fresh greens they need to build up strength is not there yet. And in the Oostvaardersplassen this is a big thing. Too many competing grazers, herds of Horses, wild cattle and red deer have not been "managed" well and exploded in numbers. And they compete for food with the Barnacle Geese (winter grounds) and Greylag Geese (breeding grounds). There is a big controversy going on at the moment on how this area should be managed. And even if it has to remain wild. The latter scares the cr** out of me. This as I am 100% convinced that in an ever crowded world we need these "wild" areas around us.
