I took this photo during my travel in Norway. It's a forest in Bergen which you come across when you hike to Mount Fløyen. Very pretty spot!Time
It was taken in the morning sometime in August. There weren't a lot of people yet and most take the funicular to go to the top.Lighting
That day was very unusual. The fog was the thickest I have ever seen. In the city you had a clear view.. No fog at the ground level. But I could see the fog above covering the forest and decided to check it out. Once inside the forest, it felt incredible. Each tree was like a ghostly presence trying to come to life.Equipment
That day I wasn't prepared to shoot anything significant. So I used my phone, a OnePlus 3.Inspiration
Being inside the forest gave me the feeling to be in a dream: very peaceful and quiet. I was almost alone. The composition I saw with these trees and the light trying to find its way through the fog made for a beautiful scenery. And then this one single, silent silhouette walking down the road was the icing on the cake. There was something very cinematographic about this scene. I couldn't resist.Editing
Yes. I tried my best to color grade the photo despite the limitations of the camera. I did an overall color and luminosity pass to make the whites a bit softer and get a better earthy forest look. Then I went a bit more specific with the colors of the trees, playing with the saturation and hue. My goal was to get their natural appearance back and how they were contrasting with the foggy background. I also did a mask for the road which originally was very dark, to get some of the colors back and to see its texture better. Since it was shot with my bare hands, I probably must have adjusted the framing a notch. In my camera bag
Normally I use a Panasonic GH4 or a Canon 80D. I have a sigma art lens 30mm, a contemporary 150-600mm, and one or two of my rokinon prime cine lenses: 14mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm. And usually I have a manfrotto tripod with a fluid head. It's more a videographer gear that I have as I also enjoy making videos.Feedback
I would say: be aware of your environment and timing is everything. Don't rely too much on your gear. It's more important to appreciate what you see and be ready to react than being distracted by setting up your equipment. Your best tools are your eyes and your brain before anything else.
