Location
The photo was taken in one of the temple gardens at Phnom Pros in Kampong Cham, Cambodia.Time
It was late afternoon, golden hour.Lighting
The sun set very low in the horizon, which made the light soft and warm. I really liked that the light gave a nice glow to the macaque's hair and eyes color.Equipment
Nikon D810 with 70-200 2.8, handheld, no flash.Inspiration
The monkeys at this temple, were really well taken care, they were beautiful animals and very calm. Usually Macaques are aggressive and have hard time keeping eye contact, but not those, so I though it is a good opportunity for a close up portrait.Editing
I have done a little crop and color balance to the original RAW file.In my camera bag
Nikon D810 body + 3 lenses: 12-24, 24-70, 70-200 all at 2.8Feedback
When photographing animals, I find it helpful to start with shutter speed at 1/320 and the aperture at 4. Then I just try to slowly inch my way closer to the subject and guide its body position so that the background remains simple and unintrusive.
