I took this photo nearby lake Tekapo in New Zealand, I was travelling and sleeping in my car.Time
I woke up in the morning to this stunning rainbow ! The sky was all purple and orange as I hit the road to the Lake.Lighting
When I saw the light, I immediately thought about Terrence Malick's DAYS OF HEAVEN, a movie and a film director I admire. I had the feeling to live in his movie. I'm sure he would have enjoyed the view that day.Equipment
I used my Sony a7SII with a Canon 24-70mm f/4, without any tripod or flash but with a polarizing filter.Inspiration
DAYS OF HEAVEN, the film by Terrence Malick inspired me for this shot, I could almost see Richard Gere and Brooke Adams running through the fields.Editing
Post processing is essential to me, it is the second part of photography making, the same way editing is a third writing of a movie. In this case I mostly revealed the second rainbow wich was hidden a bit and boosted the light and colours of the yellow fields as well as the main rainbow. I pushed just a little bit the blue of the sky in the purples to find the atmosphere I was looking for.In my camera bag
I'm travelling New Zealand with my Sony a7SII, A Canon 24-70mm f/4 - a Canon 50mm f/1.8 - a Samyang 14mm f/2.8 for astrophotography and a Canon 75-300mm f/4-5.6 - I have a polarizing filter as well.Feedback
New Zealand is a great country for morning rainbows, mostly the south island. I've seen a lot of them in the southland. The polarizing filter is a good tool for rainbow photography because it's boosting the colours, you can choose the "strengh" of the rainbow you want as well by turning the filter, or just erase the rainbow if you don't want it but who doesn't want a rainbow shot ?
