In 2017 I started creating a new line of sculptural pieces. I call them "Contemplation Stones". They are my personal reinterpretation of two different art items which I have been drawn to for many years. The first is Suiseki from Japan. Suiseki are small, naturally formed stones admired for their beauty and for their power to suggest a scene from nature or an object closely associated with nature. Among the most popular types of suiseki are those that suggest a distant mountain, a waterfall, an island, a thatched hut, or an animal. The second is from China and called Gongshi or Scholar's Rocks. They can be any color, and contrasting colors are not uncommon. The size of the stone can also be quite varied: scholars' rocks can weigh from hundreds of pounds to less than one pound. The term also identifies stones which are placed in traditional Chinese Gardens. The stone sculptures I create are often from Hard Stone such as Agate and Jasper. The forms they take begin w naturally occurring shapes created in nature. From that, some are polished completely and for others I polish some faces and leave other portions natural to show a juxtaposition of rough and smooth. This gives the observer many different perspectives as the stones are viewed from different angles.
Product photographers, please help. I am interested in product photography. This is another attempt based on the little feedback I have been given. Will you help me improve? I welcome any constructive criticism.
