Behind The Lens

Location

I used this boat to deliver coal along the canals until recently retiring. This picture is of my boat "Roach" moored against our loading wharf at Awbridge on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, near Wolverhampton.

Time

I was up early and was really taken with the dawn light in the sky. I took a few shots around the yard and then made the effort to cross the canal and get this shot. I'm really pleased with it.

Lighting

The lighting was arranged by a higher authority. I just recognised the opportunity.

Equipment

My compact Panasonic DMC TZ35 was the camera used, hand-held. I have had it some years and still find the quality to be very acceptable.

Inspiration

The inspiration was entirely the light. It has to be said that "Roach" is a very photogenic vessel though.

Editing

Very basic editing was carried out in iPhoto. I don't think it needed much doing at all.

In my camera bag

I carry the DMC TZ35 in a pocket as a matter of course. I have recently acquired a Fuji XT3 which I am very pleased with. I'm still very much a learner with it but getting there slowly.
