Location
I took this photo in our living room as this was the only space that have a lot room to move around. As it was practically beside the dining and kitchen where I needed some of my elements for this photo.Time
I usually take my photos when everyone in my family have gone to bed definitely after 10pm especially when I need to rearrange our living room to setup everything.Lighting
Lighting was pretty simple. One light behind the bottle to have some sort of glow from within and also to light up the smoke. Another light for the highlight and a reflector on the opposite side.Equipment
I used my Canon Rebel XS with a 50mm lens for this photo due to space constraints. Had a remote trigger for the shutter and two speed lights in DIY softboxes that were wireless triggered.Inspiration
I was challenging myself to take a photo with all the elements in one shot -- water droplets, smoke and all. Majority of this photo was in one shot with the smoke.Editing
Aside from the basic editing of brightness, contrast, and some sharpening, I added a few smoke strands from another photo from the series. The challenge was to do less post-processing.In my camera bag
My bag consists all of my gear as I didn't had much. It's my trusty Rebel XS, 17-50mm f/2.8, 85mm f/1.8, 2 speed lights, triggers, batteries, charger, clips, small black and white boards for reflectors, and cleaning stuff.Feedback
This shot was, I would say very technical one for me. A lot of preparation and research was done except when I did this, the information that I needed was done on the spot. So, the best advice I could give is to visualize the end product then break down the elements then research and prepare for the execution of those elements. As for my photo, I wanted a black background and needed to find how to light bottle from behind while having the dark background. Next was to have those water droplets stick on the bottle. Lastly, how to have smoke crawl like those smoke machines. Once all of the elements have been figured out, try taking photos of each element on their own then combine them in one shot if possible which was my challenge to myself for this photo.
