Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo outside of our home. The background is the pebbled pavement that was perfect for a great texture.

Time

If I can recall it correctly, I took this photo in the afternoon when the sun has passed our wall and casted a shadow in this place we took the photo.

Lighting

I wanted to have some edge lighting in this photo and I managed to achieve that with the help of a big wall behind her and used the reflection of the sun that just passed us. Since we were in the shadows, I had to use additional lights for the main light.

Equipment

This was shot using my Canon Rebel XS/1000D with a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 at f/3.5, 1/125, and ISO 200. Used also an off-camera flash with an umbrella wirelessly triggered.

Inspiration

Aside from capturing her beauty and simplicity, I was inspired to take this photo because I was experimenting the mixture of natural and artificial light. Being able to mix these sources of light is quite challenging and therefore having to achieve this was delightful.

Editing

It has been awhile since I took this photo. As per my usual workflow, I would adjust levels. Additionally, I enhanced the eyes and the DOF to further focus attention to the face.

In my camera bag

My trusty Canon Rebel XS/1000D, couple of lenses, speedlites and diffusers, batteries, chargers, and some flags, clips, and straps. Some cleaning materials are also in there.

Feedback

Definitely to try and experiment different light setups and to use of what is available to achieve a photo is a good learning experience.
