Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in my own backyard!

Time

Slightly before golden hour.

Lighting

I'm a perpetual fan of keeping things as natural as possible when I'm photographing children. I rarely use off camera flash and I use editing to mimic the look of it. I try to keep my subject with their back facing the sun.

Equipment

For this picture, I only used my camera.

Inspiration

My red headed little fire cracker and his brother love our ducks. Simply put, I couldn't help but to preserve their delirious giggles while holding their baby.

Editing

I rely on editing to tell my story and to mimic lighting setups so as to keep the set up natural and so that I have easy access to chase the kiddos around.

In my camera bag

I have all of the basic materials that most others. I do believe I had a jar of peanut butter in my bag because this was during the same time I shot my other son and our pet goat.

Feedback

Have fun and keep it simple. When going into a shoot with children, it's best to keep expectations low and hope for the best. Children are incredibly unpredictable and it's best to follow their lead.
