Eagles in Alaska are like seeing sea gulls at a beach. Shooting these birds is outstanding, especially when they pose and let you get close. This guy landed on a fallen tree about 75 feet away and had little fear of us. At 6 frames per second, I'm sure he heard shutter sound, yet did not leave. I took about 30 pictures at just about every focal length from full body to this. He stayed around the area for quite a while.Editing
I have Photoshop and usually edit in raw only to enhance some colors and reduce file size. Raw photos with the Canon D5SR are huge. Photos are so sharp at 50 megapixels little needs to be done.In my camera bag
Canon 5DSR, Canon 100-400mm L Lens, Canon 24-70mm L Lens, Canon 50mm f1.2 L lens and circular polarizing filter for each lens. It is a back pack bag so weight is important when hiking around.Feedback
In Utah where I live there is an eagle migration every February at a migratory location near the great salt lake. Sitting and waiting is the key for these birds and they are very reliable when they come. In Alaska the eagles were so plentiful it was hard to get a bad picture. Along the inlets with the salmon migration back, the eagles are more tolerant of humans being close by. At the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska, I photographed an eagle dive for a salmon so big he could not carry it out of the water to shore and he actually swam with it in his mouth. Once he got to shore and started eating it several people around us could not believe the eagle did what he did to get it to shore.
