This photo was taken on my honeymoon in Greece, in October 2012. My husband & I stayed on the island of Santorini for a couple of nights, & one day took a scooter into Oia. We walked along the winding stairs & paths, & I saw this lone chair against the stair wall, & thought it was lovely.Time
It was the middle of the day there, so the sun was shining brightly, & glistening off the Aegean Sea.Lighting
The moment I saw this set up, I knew I would turn it into a black & white image. I shoot with digital, but apparently my eye sees in black & white quite a lot. I just knew that the pure white of the walls & stairs would contrast nicely with the dark wood of the chair.Equipment

The fact that this image could mean anything to anyone. It could signify the loneliness of an empty chair, or it could be the after shot of someone who'd left the chair & walked up the stairs to who knows what possibilities. Plus, I really enjoy lines in my photos, & the juxtaposition of the lines here caught my eye.Editing
I turned the digital color image into a black & white image & messed around with the colors & light balances until I found something that popped to me.In my camera bag
I have my Canon EOS T3i body & a variety of lenses. Plus a tripod, an extra battery, & some specialty filters.Feedback
Be willing to walk around your areas in complete silence. If you can find places where there are no other humans, even better. Open your mind to the stillness of the moment, & voila! You'll see some amazing beauty in the simplest of scenes.
