Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the fish lakes of Maagan-Michael, a few kms from my house. The farmers are breeding fish there, and this little fella came to feast :)

Time

This was late morning. Not the perfect time from the perspective of light, as there was a pretty bright sun out there.

Lighting

As I noted earlier - too much sunlight was there. But I still liked the result.

Equipment

Shot with a Panasonic GX8 and a Panasonic-Leica 100-400mm lens.

Inspiration

I like to visit the fish lakes to see the various birds that come to enjoy the plethora of fish there.

Editing

Some cropping and color correction, but that's basically it!

In my camera bag

I've since upgraded to a Panasonic G9, but kept the lens (Panasonic-Leica 100-400mm). I also have a wide-angle zoom (Panasonic-Leica 12-60mm) and a macro lens (Olympus 60mm). Apart from that I carry some ND filters, to enable me to take long-exposure photographs, a tripod, and a flash I rarely use.

Feedback

You need to learn the habits of the animals you want to photograph: Where do they like to come? What time? How close can you get to them without scaring them away? Other interesting behavior? The more you know the better chances you have of being in the right place, the right angle, at the right time to take a good photo.
