Thank you soo much. Last Christmas was very similar, the difference was that we went through it on foot.. Octavio left the Land Rover further back

You're welcome. I've been looking for the wheel-replacing caterpillar units, for the snowy situations mainly, but comes out these cost more than my Niva. Then again, there are ways to temporarily add "soft chains" to the wheels - even DIY segments of old oversize tires would be good, especially as these do not chafe the rubber.
The development of such solution never really ends... :)

Behind The Lens

Location

Deep in the mud. Somewhere near Nancite biologial station. We were repairing a track to the base depot of a very remote biological station, simply dumping rubble and rocks in the bottomless mud.

Time

We had already well advanced and beer reserves were running low. late in the afternoon.

Lighting

As provided by nature deep in the forest.

Equipment

The D4 and some mud, sorry bog standard zoom. Rubber boots, mosquito repellent and long trousers like Octavio, the guy on the right

Inspiration

in spite of mud, dirt, sweat mozzies and hard work we were very happy. Good friends make all the difference. I hope it shows.

Editing

Apart from a very careful cleaning effort (yes mud on the D4 body...) I did not need to. Oh, forgot: Apply WD40 to hands. it keeps the mozzies off because you smell like an engine and it soothes the bites.

In my camera bag

For places like that, a wide angle to slight normal zoom, a low light lens when it gets dark, the D4 because it can take this and maybe a macro if there could be interesting insects (yes there were that day)

Feedback

Don't do like I always do and take a plastic bag for the camera. I tend to forget. And by all means, put a UV filter on the lens. You can clean them with dish washing liquid. And use an old , reliable camera.
