This is Nikolai. He is a master craftsman specializing in hand-made knives. He lives in Bulgaria near the town of Sopot. In this photo he is creating a billet of Damascus steel which later became a hunting knife. The low light of evening made this forge work very dramatic with the sparks flying everywhere. I put this up here two different ways to get opinions from you talented people. Which do you prefer and why?

I prefer this colour version over the B/W version. The colour gives it heat. Both are great by the way

thank you very much for sharing your thoughts Johnny. I feel the same way. I created the whole image in my mind first with the fire being the light source which naturally would cast the orange light. I offered the black and white version because a few friends said it would be cool in black and white and of course to seek a consensus from my peers and mentors here.

I really like the colour version. It brings the scene to life. The light on his face increases the intensity of the scene . Beautiful.
