Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken just outside the beautiful Les Baux-de-Provence in Southern France.

Time

it was taken at sunset, c.7pm.

Lighting

I really enjoy taking sunsets and sunrises as the lighting can be magical. The range of colours at these times of days can enhance any photo.

Equipment

This was shot on my Canon EOS 550D with a 25/80mm lens along with a UVA filter. Aperture f/7.1 ISO 100 Shutter 1/80

Inspiration

I am always on the lookout for inspiring sunsets and noticed the bold colours in the sky - the lighter blue sky layering down to the red sky on the horizon. By itself a photo of the sky would not special, but i can across the large tree to provide both a focal point and silhouette. I took many photos as the sun went down and chose this one to capture the moment.

Editing

This photo is all natural, with no post-processing.

In my camera bag

As this was taken on holiday, i only had my camera and lens with me, with a couple of filters (UVA/ ND/ CPL) . They can be heavy to carry and take up quite a lot of hand luggage space, that I do not really have a camera bag. If I am at home, or a long road trip I might pack a tripod and a Macro Lens. Since taken this photo, I have upgraded my lens to a 28/250mm lens which is ideal for most of my photography. The only other piece of equipment i take is a camera/ lens pen to keep it clean.

Feedback

With the help of digital photography, it is easy to take many photos of the same object at different angles and settings, and see which one you prefer. Don't be afraid to take many photos as you like, changing the shutter speed or ISO to change the lighting.
